Tackling case inflection as a beginner is a little like entering a dark room with a torch. You shine your light on a wooden chair. You see the chair clearly and can describe it but you have no idea where the chair sits in relation to everything else in the room.

Arabic programmes tend to tackle case inflection in bite-sized chunks which is understandable given the breadth, complexity and foreignness of the topic. However, even after years of study, many Arabic students are still not confident with the different ways nouns inflect. In my opinion, this is not the fault of the students nor is it the fault of the teachers.

The problem lies in the dearth of user-friendly resources for students to compile all of these bite-sized chunks. This book is my attempt to fill this gap. Indeed, it is intended as a supplement as opposed to a replacement for a good Arabic programme.

Studying Arabic is never linear and learning, forgetting and remembering again is part of the process. In such a light, I recommend that students keep this book with them throughout their Arabic learning journey and revisit its exercises as many times as required to achieve a solid foundation.
